Jace Collins was born and raised in the schizophrenic atmosphere of South Carolina's Grand Strand. The over-stimulation of the brief steaming summers alternated with the ghost town atmosphere of a resort deserted. An inner focus developed which became a lifelong obsession. Art was an early interest which grew as time went on. Despite lengthy detours into hedonistic excesses, the fascination with art always remained a vital undercurrent which eventually resulted in a BA and a MA in a mere twelve years of periodic higher education. The twin curves of artistic desire and academic dissatisfaction intersected with various other crucial life decisions early in 1986. By year’s end Coquina Arts was in the process of becoming and academia was well on it’s way to the place where unpleasant memories go.
During the next decade a willingness to experiment combined with good fortune and an inclusive approach to subject matter to produce a style which is characterized by non-traditional materials and spiritually based symbols and compositions. The process is ongoing.
