The square contained within the
circle is a symbol of earth in proper relation to heaven. Each is in
its correct place and the proportion is correct. The cross extending
beyond the circle is the open (western) form of the square. With the
circle, it forms the basic Celtic Cross, whose symbolism of
physical/spiritual balance is the same.
Since this
balance is the condition which underlies all true prosperity, it is
easy to understand its universality as a prosperity talisman. Some
cultures, China for example, take this a step further and make it the
symbol for money itself.
